What is the 1991 Cowgirl?

— The 1991 Cowgirl —

Who is she? Why are we different than all of the other cowboy boot brands out there?

1991 is bringing back Femininity.

Yesterday I went to Boot Barn, I was doing some research on cowgirl boots and what is offered on the market. From the boots I saw on the shelves, It felt like men were designing them. the colors were mismatched, the leather colors were really rugged or the boots were just flat out not cute. As i continually learn more about the cowgirl boot industry the more I see gaps in what I want to see in cowgirl goods. A lot of cowgirl goods are really masculine. It is a masculine world, and I want to bring back the femininity to the cowgirl industry.

Our boots are hand designed and drawn in house by me, a modern day woman, a self taught cowboy boot designer. I essentially designed my dream boots for the first collection. I wanted something timeless, feminine and modern yet made durable, handmade by boot makers, with real leather and wasn’t made in China. I wanted to design boots that were different than everything I’ve seen on the market. I wanted neutral colors with a vintage touch and classic aesthetic.

I wanted a toe that was more feminine, less snippy. a cross between a round and snip toe. And I wanted the overall boot to be a work of art, an heirloom piece. I do think cowboy boots in general are heirlooms of America and of the west. I want to keep that tradition and continue to create heirlooms, not just manufactured boots you toss away after a few years. I want to make pieces of art that last in your wardrobe for generations.

The 1991 Cowgirl

RIding western and horses for as long as I can remember, and growing up in a town in Colorado near horse country, I just never really vibed with the cowgirl aesthetic and style. For me it felt outdated, glitzy & masculine. And sometimes it still does that feel that way.

As a cowgirl we do love the masculine things in life, like playing in the dirt, laughing with the boys, drinking a beer here and there, bantering with friends and working really hard.

But honestly, cowgirls, can be some of the most feminine women. We are in tune with nature, we are in tune with ourselves, in tune with the animals, and continue to have a deep reverence for the natural cycles of the earth and of life.

I want to bring femininity back into the cowgirl industry. I want to design boots for women like me. Women that love being a cowgirl, getting dirty but also love dressing up, having a self care routine, cooking in the kitchen, laughing with other women, and being dainty and feminine.

We don’t need these chunky boots and durable goods to reflect our cowgirl lifestyle. Let’s wear dresses, cute cowgirl boots, cowgirl hats and tell the world who we are. Because the world needs more cowgirls in it.

We are a dying breed — let’s keep the legacy of america alive while keeping the legacy of femininity close to our hearts.

The 1991 cowgirl is feminine & chic, she is a rancher’s wife, a farmer’s daughter, she’s a kind hearted mother, sister and wife, she gets dirty but likes to dress up too! She bakes sourdough bread, has fresh flowers in the house, feeds her cows, collects eggs from her chickens, goes out on sunset rides, and enjoys going to the farmer’s market.

She surrenders to life’s flow and is deeply in tune with nature.

What’s next for 1991?

I want 1991 to be the first stop for cowgirls, farmers & women like me.

I want to eventually create dresses, durable cowgirl goods, dainty floral saddle blankets, candles, home goods and cute tack that just doesn’t exist.

We want to make durable working boots a little more feminine, and cutesy!

We also want to educate about sustainability and natural fibers and handmade goods.

We are very excited to announce that we are bringing on a female hat maker to make our first 1991 cowgirl hats and we are so excited to create a community of cowgirls and continue to create and build a new legacy in the industry.
