Inspired by minimalism, romance, poetry & vintage Ralph Lauren.

Our first collection is truely inspired by minimalism and romance. when I went shopping for cowgirl boots for myself, I noticed a lack of modern design & simplicity.

I have always been into horses and loved riding western, but I never vibed with the aesthetic of it. It felt too glitz and glam for me. I wanted simple and feminine boots, boots that I could wear riding, but also boots that I could wear leisurely or dress them up, and pair them with dresses or denim.

So I created this first collection for 1991 inspired by simplicity. The leather & suede colors are all neutrals so you can wear them with any outfit. Camel, chocolate brown, cognac, cream white and black. My personal favorite colors.

When designing the boots I pulled inspiration from vintage cowboy boots I found in books and paired it with inspiration from the runway and fashion archives from the 90’s.

The Nineties

The 90’s is when i was born, 1991 to be exact. And that era of classic, laid back yet chic fashion is the backbone behind my designs for 1991. When I had the idea for 1991 I was also just really getting back in touch with my roots and who i was and what brought me true joy. Growing up in colorado, horses and cowboys where all around me. It was just normal, even though i loved horses I just never felt like i fit into the cowboy / cowgirl scene. I was more of an introverted artist and i went on to study fashion design. I was always inspired by haute couture and new york and paris fashion week. And i did not want to add rhinestones to anything I wore lol. But as i was getting in touch with who i was, i started riding again. And feeling the wind in my hair, caressing a horses mane, connecting with their heartbeat, putting on the saddle. I just knew that’s what brought me the most joy. Being in nature, in tune with animals, and growing things in the garden. That’s what connected me to myself. not what society expected of me. and once i realized that, i felt free. And I wanted to create 1991 as an ode to getting back to our roots, and connecting with nature and horses. and I hope i can inspire young women, who are fashionable, and live in small towns and are seeking a bigger life somewhere else. Maybe that bigger life is actually right in front of you.

Behind the Name

So i named 1991 after my birth year, to represent coming back home to my roots. and is also a play on the classic western established dates.

1991 as a brand seeks to break the mould of a western brand, creating pieces that are timeless, yet modern, fashionable and artistic. I want 1991 to be a brand reflects life’s simple pleasures, and inspires women from all over the world to embrace nature, maybe leave the city life behind and discover a newfound appreciation and romanticism of never forgetting where you came from.
